Flute MusicBefore acquiring a flute you should get it checked at a flute repair and service shop to ensure that it works well. These flutes are not very costly. You can easily get a beginner’s flute by shelling out a few hundred dollars. The flute comes in three pieces in a case-a head joint, a body section and the foot joint. Practicing blowing of air First you must hold the head joint with the left hand, cover its open end with your right hand and place your lower lip on the wider side of the embouchure and blow air. If a low airy sound is produced accompanied by condensation on the opposite side of the embouchure you are on your way to playing the best flute music. Thereafter practice blowing hard leaving the head joint’s opening uncovered. This will produce a higher octave. You should blow air from your diaphragm and not by puffing your cheek. Learning to assemble the flute correctly Holding the body at the smooth area above the keys you should insert the head joint onto the body. Hold the end of the foot joint without touching its keys and push it gently into the other open end of the body. To play the best flute music you will have to ensure that the embouchure hole and the rod which passes through the length of the foot joint are lined up with the middle of the keys on the body. The foot joint key should not be in line with the body keys. Becoming comfortable with the flute You must also become comfortable with using your fingers to press the flute keys quickly. You must practice playing different notes on your flute with your left and right hand fingers placed on appropriate keys. While playing the flute you must be relaxed without body tension to produce smooth and rich music. Use the fingering chart in a beginner’s lesson book to practice the low and high B flat notes first; then work your way down the music scale. Taking some formal flute lessons from a trained teacher will work wonders in making your dream of playing the best flute music a reality. |
